Over the years, the production of white wine with a mixture of red and white grape varieties has been the main factor to characterize the differential elements in Cigales rosé wines, taking into account the way these varieties have adjusted to our soil, climate and cultural practices.
Over the years, other trials have been carried out in collaboration with the Castile and Leon Enological Station, and the conclusion has been reached that by producing wine with ideal proportions of white varieties (Albillo, Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc) mixed with red varieties (Tempranillo, Garnacha and Merlot), the rosé wine obtained is typical of Cigales, but also meets the expectations that the current market demands for colour, aromas and flavour.
Since 1985, the vineyard has been gradually reconverted, which has lead to plantations with varieties in appropriate proportions to produce rosé wines but also to be able to carry out trials with red wines.
The results obtained with red grape varieties, such as Tempranillo, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, both for young red wines and Crianzas and Reservas, have fulfilled the prospective expectations. As a result of this, in 1994 the first Reserva 1991 of the Cigales D.O came onto the market.
In the following years, as the age of our vineyards increases, the quality of our Crianzas will move up positions in the market.
